our history

Thru Iceland was founded by Marcin and Ania — a couple brought together by a shared passion for the outdoors and a love for Iceland’s wild landscapes. What started as a dream slowly turned into a plan, and eventually into the company we run today.

Both of us have spent years exploring and working in northern environments, gaining experience in places such as Svalbard, Norway, and Finland. Those experiences shaped the way we approach guiding: with respect for nature, strong safety standards, and a genuine enthusiasm for the outdoors.

Our goal is simple — to show you the real Iceland. Not just the famous stops along the road, but the landscapes, stories, and moments that make this island so special.

We focus on small groups and personal experiences. That allows us to move at the right pace, adapt to the conditions, and make every tour feel authentic rather than rushed.

For us, guiding is not just a job. It’s the opportunity to share the places we love with people who are curious enough to explore them.

FAQs

Most of our tours are operated as private or small-group experiences,
allowing you to explore Iceland in a more personal and flexible way.
Unlike large bus tours, private tours offer the freedom to travel at your own
pace, spend more time at the places you enjoy, and visit hidden locations along
the way.

Most of our tours start in Vík í Mýrdal or along the South Coast.
For some tours, pickup can also be arranged from nearby locations depending on the itinerary. If you would like to request pickup from a different location, please contact us and we will do our best to arrange it for you. The exact meeting point and pickup details will always be provided in your booking confirmation.

No previous glacier experience is required. Our glacier hikes on Sólheimajökull are designed for beginners and first-time glacier explorers. Your guide will provide all necessary safety instructions and equipment before stepping onto the glacier.

Weather in Iceland can be unpredictable.
If weather conditions are unsafe, we may need to modify, postpone, or cancel a tour. Safety is always our top priority.
If a tour is cancelled due to weather, we will offer an alternative date or a full refund.

No. Tours to the Icelandic Highlands, including Landmannalaugar and Þórsmörk, are typically available only during the summer months when mountain roads are open.
The Highland season usually runs from June to September, depending on road and weather conditions.

Yes. We specialize in custom and private tours designed around your  interests. 
Custom tours can include glacier adventures, hiking tours, sightseeing,  photography stops, or exploring hidden locations across Iceland. If you have a specific idea in mind, we are happy to help design a unique  itinerary for you.
